Smooth & hard-wearing

Tarmac driveways

A clean, seamless, hard-wearing surface, ideal for larger driveways and longer entrances.

Tarmac gives you a clean, seamless, hard-wearing surface that is ideal for larger driveways and longer entrances. It goes down quickly, takes heavy daily use, and gives a smart, uniform finish.

As with all our work, the surface is only as good as the base beneath it. We prepare and compact a proper sub-base and lay the tarmac to fall correctly so water runs away rather than pooling.

  • Smooth, seamless finish with no joints
  • Very hard-wearing under daily vehicle use
  • Well suited to larger or longer driveways
  • Laid to the correct falls for drainage over a compacted base

Questions

Tarmac driveway FAQs

How much does a tarmac driveway cost?
Tarmac is often the best value option for larger driveways. The cost depends on the area, the depth of tarmac and base, edging, and access for the machinery. We provide a fixed price after a free site visit.
How long does a tarmac driveway last?
A well-laid tarmac driveway lasts around 15 to 20 years or more when put down on a properly prepared and compacted base. Keeping it sealed and clearing standing water helps it go the distance.
How long does tarmac take to lay, and when can I drive on it?
Many tarmac driveways are laid in a single day once the base is ready. You can usually drive on it within two to three days, but avoid heavy loads and sharp turning for the first few weeks while it fully hardens.
Is tarmac suitable for large or sloped driveways?
Yes. Tarmac gives a smooth, seamless surface with good grip, ideal for large areas and sloped or curved driveways. We lay it to the correct falls so water runs off cleanly rather than pooling.
Do I need planning permission for a tarmac driveway?
Tarmac is impermeable, so if the driveway is larger than five square metres and drains directly onto the public road, planning permission may be required. We direct drainage to a permeable area or soakaway to keep it within permitted development.
